Beautiful Spring is here in the Ozarks, and with that comes warmer temperatures, wildflowers, trees leafing out, hiking adventures, river kayaking and canoe trips, birds and wildlife active in the forest surrounding the cabin, and evenings spent visiting and roasting S'mores in front of the fire ring. This wonderful time offers brilliant views of the nighttime stars, shooting stars and satellites poking through the inky black sky. Quiet evenings spent on the front porch watching the sun set behind the ridge are often punctuated by the calls of owls and packs of coyotes just getting started on their evening hunts. It's also a time when the deer and turkey coming in and out of the woods and through the front meadow are active. It's a magic show, and you have a front row seat here.

"I took a walk in the woods and came out taller than the trees." - Henry David Thoreau

During your stay, wander along and through the surrounding forest and National River land, which is studded with massive oaks, walnuts, sycamores, dogwoods and many other species of trees. Look and watch for the birds, insects and wildlife that share this ridge top with you as you breathe in the clean, mountain air. You will be comforted by the privacy and solitude you experience. Settle in at the pavilion and fire up the grill to cook dinner, before sitting down together to eat while enjoying the mountain views. Early mornings are a great time to bundle up a bit and take a walk with a mug of coffee, watching the pink spread across the sky or the fog roll through the valley below as you listen to the natural world awaken. These opportunities are all right at your feet at Blue Canoe Cabin.

If you must go inside...

Blue Canoe Cabin was completely remodeled in 2021 and boasts modern amenities, comfort and thoughtful upgrades throughout. There are large windows everywhere, providing views in all directions to the hills and woods just outside. The downstairs was reconstructed with accessibility in mind. The lower level is wheelchair accessible with wide doorways and ADA features in the bathroom, including a low profile shower basin. There is a wheelchair accessible ramp to access the front deck and cabin entry. The cabin itself contains approximately 1000 sf on two levels and can comfortably host up to six guests. Additionally, there is generous outdoor living space which includes a 150 sf screened in porch facing southeast with sunrise views, a huge 375 sf covered front porch with seating and dining table which faces northwest for spectacular sunset views and a detached 320 sf covered pavilion with outstanding views of Pilot Mountain. The cabin floorplan includes:

- One private bedroom downstairs (full sized bed)

- Open concept full kitchen and living room downstairs

- One private bathroom with shower and laundry facilities downstairs

- A semi-private sleeping loft upstairs (queen bed) with a large sitting area and sleeper loveseat (full bed)

The Middle Buffalo River is right here.

This is the ideal location to serve as your home base to explore the middle Buffalo River, especially if your plans include a float trip through the family friendly stretch of river between Tyler Bend and Gilbert. The Buffalo River is less than 1/2 mile as the crow flies from the cabin back door. The river is so close you will feel it here in the weather, the foggy mornings, the dew on the ground, seeing the herons and kingfishers passing overhead to and from the river. The Buffalo National River park boundary borders the property for 1/4 mile, providing direct foot access to the park. In fact, it's possible to hike to Shine Eye in 45 minutes or to Gilbert in about 1 hour directly from the cabin, enjoying river bluff views and historic sites in the forest as you hike along the old Buffalo River Trail. If you choose to go by car, Gilbert is less than 5 minutes away while you can be at Shine Eye (Shhhh, don't tell anyone, but one of the best swimmin' holes on the river) in less than 10 minutes by car. If you do visit Gilbert, it's interesting to note that this quaint hideaway is the smallest municipality in Arkansas (population 26, according to the 2020 census), is the only town located directly on the banks of Buffalo National River and is known as 'The Coolest Town in Arkansas' as its daily low temperature is often the coolest in Arkansas - a good thing in the warm Arkansas Summer months. Other locations nearby include:

5-10 minutes to Silver Hill for restaurants, canoe and kayak rental outfitters, Dollar General for groceries

10 minutes to Tyler Bend Recreation Area or Grinder's Ferry

15 minutes to Marshall for grocery store, drive-in movie theater, restaurants, gas

15 minutes to Red Bluff Overlook (Pictured below)

20 minutes to Woolum

35 minutes to Harrison
